EYES UP, childhood digital habits and school careers: New dataset in DASSI

Posted on 02/11/2026

The dataset from the EYES UP (Early Exposure to Screens and Unequal Performance) project is now available in DASSI. The project studies digital habits during childhood and early adolescence. It was led by the University of Milano-Bicocca together with the University of Brescia, the Sloworking association and the Socialis research centre, with funding from Fondazione Cariplo under the “Inequalities Research 2022” call.

The survey collected retrospective information on students’ educational trajectories. It also covers when and how they acquired and used digital devices, and the parental controls and restrictions on their use. Finally, it records current satisfaction with various life domains and overall subjective well-being.

Using an anonymous longitudinal identifier provided by the Italian Ministry of Education, the survey data were linked to the same students’ INVALSI test results: Italian and mathematics in grades 2, 5, 8 and 10, and English in grades 5 and 8. They were also linked to the students’ past school marks in Italian and mathematics. The resulting longitudinal dataset follows the full school careers of 10th and 11th graders (school year 2023/2024) and combines them with the survey data.
